Once known as a platform for finding new recipes, home decor inspiration, and current fashion trends, has come leaps and bounds since its inception. With over 430 million daily users on the platform (we use this term lightly, Pinterest is actually considered a search engine!), it’s one of the best ways to grow your business. If you’ve been using Pinterest the old-school way and are starting to make the shift into utilizing it for your blogging business, this post is for you! Today, our team at The Social Icing is sharing their 5 tips for getting noticed on Pinterest so you can consistently drive users to your blog and social media content.
5 Tips for Getting Noticed on Pinterest
Static Pins vs. Idea Pins
There are two types of content you can create on Pinterest: static pins and idea pins (previously known as stories). Think of these as in-feed posts and Stories on Instagram.
Static Pins
This is the OG type of content on Pinterest and allows you to share everything from home decor and fashion-related imagery to graphics promoting sale finds, webinars/courses/classes, recipes, a free download, and so much more. The great thing about static pins is that you can create so many different variations to promote a single blog post, as well as recycle/Pin content from other platforms. As you’re editing the pin, don’t forget to add a URL, a Pin description, and utilize keywords.
Idea Pins
This type of content shows up on the top of Pinterest in small bubbles, as well as in-feed on your Pinterest dashboard. Up until recently, you were only able to add product tags/links to Idea Pins but Pinterest recently rolled out the ability to add external URLs to Idea Pins. This is major! Right now, Pinterest is prioritizing Idea Pins and by posting them consistently (2-3 times per week), you’ll be able to drastically increase your profile’s reach, impressions, and traffic back to your blog.
Using Keywords in Your Pins
Utilizing keywords in your pins allows users to find your content when making a search a Pinterest. To figure out what keywords to use, start typing into the search bar what your content is about and you’ll see current keywords that users are searching. Incorporate these into your pin titles and descriptions! Once you search a keyword in the search bar, Pinterest will not only give you results but will also give you additional keywords that are currently popular.
Refer to Current Trends
Pinterest has a really great trend report, which you can access HERE! By referring to these trends, you’ll be able to create content that is currently trending so you can get more eyes on your profile/pins. You can go even further by typing in potential keywords into the search bar and get even more trending searches and their current growth so you can plan accordingly.
Use the Correct Dimensions
Pinterest recommends a 2:3 (1,000 x 1,5000 pixels) ratio for your Pinterest content. By utilizing these dimensions, you’re able to avoid any issues with your content getting cut off for users. You’ll also want to avoid creating pins that are too small or horizontal in shape as they won’t catch the eye of users, and they’re not favored by Pinterest.
Be Consistent by Automating Your Content
One of our biggest tips for getting your content noticed on Pinterest is to be consistent. We know this is something you hear all the time especially when it comes to blog content and your social media presence, but it’s so true. When you’re creating and pushing content out consistently, it’s more likely to be seen by your followers and your ideal audience. If you’re having a hard time being consistent with Pinterest content, we recommend scheduling out content through Tailwind or working with a Pinterest manager!
