From the outside, being a content creator seems easy; you take photos of yourself, post them to Instagram, write a blog post, promote it on social media, and then you start all over again. But this isn’t the case. There’s so much that goes into content creation from admin tasks, managing sponsored campaigns and relationships with brands, strategizing your content plan, and actually creating the content, just to name a few. As an industry that puts pressure on creators to be “on” all the time, it’s no surprise that feelings of burnout happen more than in other industries. If you’ve been experiencing burnout more often as of late, or want to work on avoiding that feeling, this post is for you! Here’s how to handle content creation burnout.
How to Handle Content Creation Burnout
There are so many things you can do to help avoid content creation burnout before it strikes. From adjusting your daily schedule and getting out of the house more and working alongside others to outsourcing tasks to free up time, making changes to the way you work can make a big impact.
While these changes can help, sometimes burnout is unavoidable, especially when it comes to content creation. Knowing how to handle those periods and ways to get your content inspiration back is what will help you shift your mindset.
Create a Content Calendar
Sitting down each month and creating a content calendar for your blog and social media platforms is one of the best ways to handle content creation burnout. A content calendar gives you structure and inspiration and helps you avoid spending time each day trying to figure out what to post.
When it comes to creating your content calendar, having content pillars that you rely on in your business will make it so much easier to figure out what types of content you want to share. Another good way to not only come up with content ideas but get your audience engaged is to turn to them and ask what they want to see. One of our favorite ways to do this is on Instagram Stories!
Repurpose Old Content
On the days that you’re feeling burnout, repurpose old content instead of creating new content from scratch! This will not only help you stay consistent on the days you have no idea what to post, but it’ll also help give your SEO a boost. When you’re repurposing old content on your blog, make sure to make updates so that the content itself is up to date and switch out any broken internal links or shopping widgets so you’re still providing your audience with opportunities to shop your commissionable links.
Seek Inspiration
One of the best ways to pull yourself out of content creation burnout is to get inspired! This will help you feel excited about creating content again, too. Whether it’s taking an online course, scrolling Pinterest, pulling ideas for video content on Tiktok, or getting together with other women in the industry to bounce ideas off one another, there are so many ways to find inspiration in your life.
Take a Break
One of our biggest tips for handling content creation burnout is to take a break. We promise that your followers will be there when you get back and would rather you take a step back from social media than create content you’re not passionate about. If you want to stay consistent while you take a break, you can easily schedule your posts to auto-post through apps like Planoly or Plann, and Facebook now allows you to schedule Instagram Stories to auto-post!
When it Doubt, Outsource
One of the easiest ways to avoid/handle content creation burnout is to outsource the tasks in your business that don’t bring you joy. Maybe this is creating graphics for LTK, maybe it’s managing your inbox. Whatever it is, outsource those tasks to a virtual assistant to help free up time in your schedule for the aspects of your business that you love.
